Sidekick Chartered Accountants teams up with CRL to support youth and senior rugby league
Canterbury Rugby League is proud to acknowledge the support of Sidekick Chartered Accountants, who have come on board to support the CRL Canterbury Cup Conference League, CRL Youth Grand Final Day and the Canterbury Bulls Under-18s Boys team in 2026.
Sidekick’s multi-faceted support of youth rugby league, as well as our senior men’s Premier Reserves competition – now known as the CRL Sidekick Chartered Accountants Canterbury Cup Conference League – is an enormous boost for our game.
“We are thrilled to be able to partner with such high-performing and reputable chartered accountants such as Sidekick,” Canterbury Rugby League CEO Malcolm Humm says.
“Their support to CRL to date has been nothing but exceptional and we look forward to a long and successful partnership with them.
“Additionally, there is a strong rugby league connection within the Sidekick team – so there is no question regarding fit.”
Sidekick’s origins date back to 2006, before the business gained real momentum from 2010 as DJCA and became one of the world’s first Xero Platinum Partners.
Sidekick Christchurch was set up in 2015, while Sidekick also now has offices in Timaru, Rangiora, Selwyn, Wanaka, Queenstown, Dunedin and Wairarapa.
“A great number of our team are passionate Warriors and rugby league supporters, with Cameron Robertson in particular having a longstanding interest and involvement in the game,” Sidekick Group CEO Ric Thorpe says.
“That made this partnership a really natural fit for us. We’re excited to support Canterbury Rugby League, connect with the sport, and get in behind the people, families and communities involved in the game.”
“As for getting behind youth rugby league, we’re all about people, families and communities. We love the idea of supporting the game’s up-and-coming participants and their endeavours, and helping them be more successful.”
Sidekick provides accounting and business services, Xero support and business growth advice for small businesses, rural and agricultural, and commercial.
A community-focused company, Sidekick has everyone in business covered – big and small.
“We like to look beyond the numbers, we pride ourselves on being people first and people-driven accountants,” Sidekick Brand Manager Steph Holt says.
“It’s about making sure that we’re thinking about our individual clients – not just what’s on the page or on the screen – and how they want to achieve their version of success.
“We don’t deal with just your compliance or your regular tax returns, but also with a lot of advisory – helping people grow their business.
“Rather than a model that’s a ‘one-size-fits-all’, we tailor it to what the client actually needs. We have a broad range of specialists in the business and we’ll find the right person to fit and support any individual client through their journey, whether they’re a start-up or have been in business for a long time.”
