Isaac Group teams up with CRL to help build grassroots rugby league’s future

Canterbury Rugby League is thrilled to celebrate our partnership with Isaac Group, who have come onboard as a sponsor to support the game’s grassroots in 2026.

Concentrating predominantly on youth programmes, Isaac Group’s contribution provides invaluable support to one of rugby league’s most crucial areas.

“CRL are delighted to have Isaac Group come on as a major partner,” Canterbury Rugby League CEO Malcolm Humm says.

“The key attraction for CRL in this partnership was that the two organisations share similar values – such as the importance of developing our people, not only in rugby league but in their communities, whilst enabling safe and fun environments for all to be part of.

“We see some real mutual benefits for each of the entities and look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Isaac Group.”

Since 1950, Isaac Construction – which primarily focuses on civil construction – has helped build the South Island by continually improving its infrastructure and environment.

Isaac Construction was founded by Sir Neil and Lady Isaac. The company’s history is rooted in altruism, and a passion for preserving wildlife and the environment.

“Sir Neil and lady Isaac were passionate advocates for conservation,” Isaac Group Business Development and Sponsorship Manager Kim Masina explains.

“They acquired the land at McLeans Island during the early days of Isaac Construction and established what has become known as Peacock Springs. To ensure the continuity of their conservation work, they established The Isaac Conservation & Wildlife Trust. Today, the company’s profits continue to support the Wildlife Park and the Trust’s ongoing environmental initiatives.”

That commitment to creating lasting community impact extends beyond conservation. Isaac Group has a long-standing history of investing in community organisations, grassroots initiatives and sport throughout New Zealand.

“Our philosophy has always been about strengthening communities and supporting local organisations, regardless of where we operate,” Masina says.

“Our partnership with Canterbury Rugby League is a natural fit. We’ve had several employees involved with the game over the years, including several who continue to play in Canterbury Rugby League competitions. That shared connection, combined with our commitment to developing people and communities, makes it a partnership we’re incredibly proud to support.”

Masina encourages members of the Canterbury Rugby League community to consider building their career with Isaac Construction’s rapidly growing and inclusive team.

Isaac Construction’s current vacancies can be viewed here.

“I’ve been with Isaac Construction for almost 13 years, and during that time I’ve seen the business grow significantly. When I started, we had around 180 employees and operated solely in Canterbury. Today, we employ over 450+ people and have expanded our operations across five additional regions, including Dunedin, Nelson, Blenheim, Greymouth and, most recently, Tauranga.

“Our aspiration is to be the employer of choice within the civil construction industry. Construction offers outstanding career opportunities for young people who are prepared to work hard, embrace new challenges, and invest in their future.

“We’re committed to investing in people who demonstrate the right attitude and willingness to learn. By providing training, mentoring and clear career pathways, we help individuals build rewarding and sustainable careers.

“Our focus is on the long term. We want to create opportunities that not only benefit our employees professionally but also have a positive impact on their families, their communities, and the regions in which we operate.”
