RED AND BLACK REPORT 2026: EDITION NO.18

The Red and Black Report shines a spotlight on Canterbury Rugby League juniors featuring in Australia’s and Britain’s elite and lower-grade competitions.

A host of Canterbury products were in action in the latest round of the NSWRL and QRL competitions, as well as the NRL’s Round 14 and the latest round of matches from the Super League in the UK.

NRL

Burnham Chevaliers junior Siua Wong produced another big 80-minute performance in Sydney Roosters’ 26-0 shutout of Canberra.

The second-rower made 11 runs for 110 metres and a game-high 47 tackles.

Aranui Eagles product Jamayne Isaako maintained his lead in the NRL pointscoring race with a try and six goals – on top of 16 runs for 163 metres – in the Dolphins’ 40-14 defeat of North Queensland. Isaako has scored 150 points in just 12 appearances in 2026.

Chevaliers junior and Dolphins five-eighth Kodi Nikorima had a line-break, two line-break assists and a try assist in the victory, while West Coast product and ex-Halswell Hornets junior player Griffin Neame made seven runs for 63 metres and 24 tackles off the bench for the Cowboys.


NSW CUP

Riccarton Knights prop K-Ci Newton-Whare scored a try and racked up 12 runs for 105 metres and 13 tackles from the bench in Melbourne’s 34-28 loss to Newcastle.

Hornby Panthers front-rower Felix Faatili had a busy 26 minutes off the bench in Newtown’s 34-22 win over St George Illawarra, notching 91 metres on nine carries and 11 tackles.

Another Hornby product, Sosaia Alatini, featured in the centres in Canterbury-Bankstown’s 60-4 rout of Parramatta, making 12 runs for 100 metres with four tackle-breaks.


JERSEY FLEGG CUP

Northern Bulldogs product and Canterbury-Bankstown five-eighth Bronson Reuben scored the final try and kicked four goals in a 40-16 victory against Parramatta.

Hornby Panthers’ Jackson Stewart was in the centres for Sydney Roosters in an 18-12 loss to Kaiviti Silktails in Fiji.

Aranui Eagles junior Victory Isaako kicked five conversions in Melbourne’s 42-22 win over Newcastle. Linwood Keas lock Te Kaio Cranwell grabbed a try for the Knights.


QUEENSLAND CUP

Northern Bulldogs product and Redcliffe stalwart Sheldon Pitama started at lock in the Dolphins’ 52-20 thrashing of Toowoomba Clydesdales, making seven runs for 63 metres and 15 tackles.


NRLQ SERIES

Halswell Hornets’ Meihana Pauling featured at fullback and kicked two goals in Gold Coast Titans’ 40-16 loss to Brisbane Broncos in the QRL’s under-20s competition for the four Queensland NRL clubs.


SUPER LEAGUE

Aranui Eagles product Daejarn Asi had a try assist and made 20 tackles as five-eighth in Castleford Tigers’ 24-14 loss to Leigh Leopards.

Wakefield Trinity’s strong run continued with a 26-24 win over Hull KR – with Burnham Chevaliers junior Jazz Tevaga (56 metres and 22 tackles) and Hornby Panthers product Caius Faatili (100 metres, 16 tackles and a try assist) playing prominent roles in the Wildcats’ pack.
