PRESS RELEASE: CRL appoints CEO
PRESS RELEASE
Canterbury Rugby League (CRL) announces the appointment of Ms Shane Collins to the position of Chief Executive Officer.
Shane was a New Zealand Hockey representative between 1985-1993 and attended the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. After an illustrious career in the New Zealand Police, Shane undertook post graduate study, culminating in her being conferred with a MBA by the University of Bath (UK) in 2001 and then a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in sport policy by Loughborough University (UK) in 2008.
After a period teaching international policy at Durham University (UK), Shane returned to New Zealand in 2011 where she has undertaken a series of senior management roles across the public sector which have been focused upon the rebuild and regeneration of Christchurch.
Shane has held a lifelong interest in sport culminating in her experience as an international sportswoman. She is looking forward to taking on this role in a sport that is growing steadily in Canterbury and across the South Island. Hard on the heels of the highly successful visit by the Penrith Panthers to Christchurch; the work being done to create a new home for rugby league at Nga Puna Wai and the prospect of a second tier NRL side being based in Christchurch and the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, Shane feels there could never be a more positive or exciting time to be coming into the sport.
Shane will begin in the role on 11 July.
CRL Chairman Andrew McCormick is delighted the organisation has been able to secure Shane for the role. He says Shane’s personality, qualifications and leadership experience saw her stand out from a very strong field of candidates, and emphasises the CRL Board looks forward to Shane leading Canterbury Rugby League into this exciting new period.
