The last of Marist Old Boys’ eight New Zealand representatives, Claude Dobbs toured Australia in 1930.
Dobbs was a try-scorer in South Island’s maiden win over North Island in 1929 and featured in the interisland draw the following season – both played at Carlaw Park – before being named in the Kiwis’ squad for the trip across the Tasman.
Along with Jim Amos, the 27-year-old was one of only two Canterbury players named in the 22-strong team.
