YOUTH WRAP – JULY 17-19
After a two-week breather for school holidays, the CRL youth night competitions resumed on Monday at Ngā Puna Wai.
Undefeated Linwood Keas retained their lead on the 16s boys table with a 66-6 win over Papanui Tigers, while Hornby Panthers Black consolidated second with a 38-10 defeat of Celebration Lions.
Third-placed Hornby Panthers White carved out a 24-6 victory Woolston Rams.
In Wednesday’s 14s boys matches at Ngā Puna Wai, Riccarton Knights kept their perfect record courtesy of a 48-12 win against Papanui Tigers, while second-placed Sydenham Swans prevailed 36-10 over Hornby Panthers.
Linwood Keas were 70-6 victors over Eastern Eagles.

WEEKEND PREVIEW – JULY 22-23
The semi-final placings are all but sorted ahead of the last round of the CRL Men’s Premiership, but there’s still plenty of interest surrounding Saturday’s three showdowns.
Boasting a four-point break on the field, Hornby Panthers already have the Massetti Cup wrapped up as they prepare for a road trip to take on bottom-placed Northern Bulldogs at Murphy Park.
Fifth-placed Riccarton Knights are out of the playoffs running but will be striving to finish with a flourish when they host defending champs Linwood Keas at Crosbie Park. The Keas are only two points clear of Halswell Hornets, but a 70-point superior for-and-against should ensure they hold onto second spot regardless of the Round 15 results.
In what shapes as a preview of the sudden-death semi in two weeks’ time, the third-placed Hornets head to Wainoni Park to take on fourth-placed Eastern Eagles.
The top-four finishing positions are yet to be decided in the ISC Canterbury Cup with one round to go, setting up a pair of huge encounters on Saturday.
Greymouth Greyhounds and Ashburton Barbarians are in a share of the competition lead on 26 points, with the West Coast club enjoying a large points differential advantage. Hornby Panthers and Linwood Keas are level on 20 points in third, separated by just eight for-and-against points.
The Greyhounds and Keas lock horns at Crosbie Park, while the Barbarians and Panthers will play at Murphy Park in Kaiapoi. Meanwhile, Halswell Hornets and Eastern Eagles – both on 16 points – meet at Wainoni Park.
The penultimate round of the Division One regular season sees ladder-leading Papanui Tigers take on Shirley Hawks at Macfarlane Park and second-placed Riccarton Knights play the Papanui Div 1 side at Crosbie Park,
There’s two rounds of the CRL Women’s Premiership remaining and this Sunday’s schedule are headlined by a clash that should decide top spot. Linwood Keas hold a one-point lead from Sydenham Swans ahead of the 2022 grand finalists’ showdown at Spreydon Domain.
Third-placed Woolston Rams make the trip out to Coronation Park to play fourth-placed Burnham Chevaliers in the other Round 13 fixture.
