JOHN WALSHE – KIWI #439
Former Canterbury centre/five-eighth John Walshe tour Britain and France with the 1965 Kiwis after moving to Otago.
The Marist back represented Canterbury against Great Britain in 1962 and featured in the province’s Rugby League Cup-winning line-ups in 1962-63.
But his elevation to national honours coincided with a shift south to join Dunedin club Celtic. Walshe played nine games for the ’65 Kiwis (no Tests) – six in England and three in France. He scored his sole try for New Zealand against Yorkshire.
A broken kneecap forced the Otago rep into retirement in 1967.
