RED AND BLACK REPORT 2019: EDITION NO.21

Each week the Red and Black Report will keep you up to date with how our Canterbury Rugby League products are performing in Australia’s elite and lower-grade competitions.

NRL

Aranui product Jamayne Isaako continued his late-season form resurgence with a key role in Brisbane’s vital win over North Queensland on Thursday.

The winger made a long break to brilliantly set up the opening try for Anthony Milford, as well as kicking three goals and racking up 154 metres in the nail-biting 18-14 win.

Again starting in his less-favoured position of hooker, Burnham Chevaliers junior Jazz Tevaga was one of the heroes of the Warriors’ stunning 24-16 upset of Manly.

The utility racked up 41 tackles and forced his way over for the match-sealing try from dummy-half.

CANTERBURY CUP NSW

Halswell old boy Matt McIlwrick reeled off 28 tackles (no misses) in Wentworthville Magpies’ 12-6 loss to Newcastle.

Hornby junior Fa’amanu Brown did everything possible to inspire Canterbury on Sunday, producing two try-assists, 132 running metres and 20 tackles. But it wasn’t enough to prevent a 26-14 loss to Mounties.

INTRUST SUPER CUP QLD

Ex-Northern Bulldogs hooker/back-rower Sheldon Pitama started in the No.9 for Redcliffe Dolphins and came up with six runs, 22 tackles and a try-assist in a 43-0 rout of Easts Tigers.

Jordan Riki enjoyed a strong 40-minute performance off the bench as Norths Devils crushed Northern Pride 62-14. The young back-rower made 63 metres from four runs, made 13 tackles with no misses, and scored a second-half try.

JERSEY FLEGG CUP (NSW U20s)

Sua Ailoilo started at prop in the Bulldogs’ 24-14 loss to Wests Tigers at Belmore on Saturday.

Promising five-eighth Joseph Taipari helped Parramatta to a 28-24 victory over Newcastle.

HASTINGS DEERING COLTS (QLD U20s)

Zinzan Martin played a starring role at centre as Townsville Blackhawks drew 14-all with CQ Capras, scoring a try in each half. Griffin Neame came off the bench for the Blackhawks.

Jalen Tangiiti-Turner featured at centre as Wynnum Manly Seagulls trounced Souths Logan Magpies 64-6.
