Red and Black Report: Edition No.27

Each week we’ll be keeping you up to date with how our Canterbury Rugby League products are performing in Australia’s elite and lower-grade competitions.

Here’s how they went in the latest round of NRL, ISP and ISC finals matches:

NRL

A contentious selection at fullback after starring in the latter regular season rounds at halfback, Kodi Nikorima eventually started off the bench in the Brisbane Broncos’ heart-stopping 24-22 loss to the Sydney Roosters on Friday night. Nikorima was injected after 20 minutes and tallied 112 metres, six tackles and a try assist in a solid display at the back.

Making the 196th appearance of his NRL career – and his eighth in finals matches – Lewis Brown scored an equalising try in the second half for the Manly Sea Eagles, but they were overrun late by the Penrith Panthers in a season-ending 22-10 loss.

Fa’amanu Brown was named in the Cronulla Sharks’ extended squad before being left out of the match-day 17 for the defending premiers’ extra-time loss to North Queensland. With the Sharks’ season now over, Brown has played his last game for the club after four seasons; the utility will link with the Canterbury Bulldogs in the off-season.

INTRUST SUPER PREMIERSHIP

Burnham Chevaliers junior Jazz Tevaga came off the bench as the Warriors kept their campaign alive with a 30-6 semi-final thrashing of Newcastle, progressing to a preliminary final showdown with Jayden Nikorima’s Wyong Roos next Sunday.
