Keas Win Canterbury Cup, Panthers Take Out 16s Decider
Hornby Panthers struck the first blow in the grand final day triple-header against Linwood Keas when their 16s side carved out a 28-22 victory in a thrilling decider at Linfield Park.
The Panthers led 8-4 at halftime, but the Keas hit back immediately after the break to herald a seesawing second stanza.
New Zealand 16s rep Caius Fa’atili continued an outstanding individual season with a superb captain’s performance from lock for Hornby, leading the way for the victors in attack and defence against a gallant Linwood outfit.
Meanwhile, Linwood got on the board on grand final day courtesy of their Canterbury Cup side, who swamped Hornby 38-10.
The Keas led 18-6 at halftime and went on with job in the second stanza, piling on another five tries.
Halfback Casey Rastrick and centre Tanielu Paulo bagged doubles for the Keas, while prop and captain Tane Moke also crossed for a four-pointer to cap an industrious display up front.
