TRILLO METALS LTD EXTEND SPONSORSHIP SUPPORT OF CANTERBURY BULLS TEAMS

Canterbury Rugby League is proud to announce the extension of its partnership with Trillo Metals Ltd, who continue as naming rights sponsors for the Men’s and Women’s Canterbury Bulls 2025 campaigns.

The Trillo Metals Women’s Canterbury Bulls will compete in the Sky Sport National Women’s Premiership, while the Trillo Metals Men’s Canterbury Bulls are lining up in the South Island Championship – where they will aim to win their way through to a showdown with the winner of the North Island Championship (the NZRL National Men’s Premiership has been split into north and south competitions in 2025).

“CRL are thrilled to have the support again in 2025 from Trillo Metals for the Men’s and Women’s Canterbury Bulls,” Canterbury Rugby League CEO Malcolm Humm says.

“For CRL to deliver these campaigns requires sponsorship support and Trillo Metals continues to provide this in a significant way. We cannot thank Spencer and Callum Trillo enough for their continued support to these campaigns and to the game of rugby league in Canterbury in general.”

Trillo Metals Ltd had previously supported the Bulls Men’s team and came on-board as naming rights sponsor for the Canterbury Women’s side for their 2023 NZRL National Women’s Premiership foray – part of a longstanding commitment to backing rugby league and community sports.

“The women’s team was a big part for us – I know how much they have struggled in the past getting funding, getting feet on the ground, even just players,” Trillo Metals Ltd Operation Manager Callum Trillo explains.

“So a big thing for us was just to support the women and let them know that there’s people out there that do think about them and they’re not getting left behind.

“We see a lot of a lot of young girls that stop with their rugby league careers because they don’t have the support or they don’t have the financial backing. We want to let them know that there are companies out there that do care. It’s not just all about the men.”

Trillo Metals Ltd expanded their commitment to our game by becoming naming rights sponsor of the Men’s Bulls team in 2024.

“It’s pretty exciting for us, we’re pretty lucky to be able to sign with both the women’s and men’s teams,” Callum says.

“It is an honour seeing our name on their jerseys.”

A former Hornby Panthers 16s player, Callum’s sons play in Eastern Eagles’ junior grades.

The cooperative spirit of the local CRL fraternity is another key reason Trillo Metals Ltd has tendered their generous support of the code in recent years.

”The rugby league community is such a great community to be a part of. Everyone’s welcoming. Everyone’s got the same kind of mission.

“And the like-minded heads working all together. It’s honestly one of the best communities I’ve been a part of. Not just from a sponsorship side, but I’ve got my kids playing league as well.”

The family owned-and-operated metal recycling business was founded in 1998 by Craig Trillo and has yards in Christchurch and Marlborough. The family name has flourished in the scrap metal industry for 60 years, starting with Craig’s father, Graeme.

Trillo Metals Ltd was a valued sponsor of the New Zealand Army rugby league team for three years before COVID interrupted the team’s immediate plans. Extending the company’s support of the game local is an enormous boost for Canterbury Rugby League.

“We’re expanding at the moment,” Callum reveals.

“We’re a third-generation family company now, with myself and (brother) Spencer coming through as the third generation.

“We’re just growing and growing at the moment, and with that growth will come hopefully more sponsorships as well. So it’s good growth for us and it can be good for our community too.”

Get in touch with Trillo Metals Ltd for your metal recycling requirements and solutions in Canterbury and Marlborough, or if producing scrap metal is a by-product of your business.

They offer a free bin service, pick-ups from your location and drop-offs at their yards in Middleton (Ph: 03 348 0609) and Blenheim (Ph: 03 578 0340) – it’s metal recycling made easy.

Meanwhile, Callum and Trillo Metals Ltd family are gearing up for massive campaigns from the Canterbury representative teams that bear their name over the next couple of months.

Despite facing significant challenges in terms of player availability, the Trillo Metals Women’s Canterbury Bulls grabbed wins over Wellington Orcas and Waikato in last year’s NZRL National Premiership.

The Trillo Metals Men’s Canterbury Bulls team swept all before them under new coach Walter Wilson in 2024, winning the South Island Championship before powering to a big win over North Island champions Wellington Orcas in the National Championship clash at Ngā Puna Wai.

Both squads and full schedules will be released in coming days.
