ŌTAUTAHI INTERIOR LINERS PITCH IN WITH MOUTHGUARDS FOR CRL JUNIORS

Canterbury Rugby League is thrilled to announce Ōtautahi Interior Liners Ltd as the sponsor of a wonderful new 2025 initiative for our tamariki.

Ōtautahi Interior Liners will generously provide mouthguards for every player in the CRL’s six-year-old grade this season.

Operating locally since 2010, Ōtautahi Interior Liners is a drywall interior company predominantly hanging plasterboard in new residential builds – and their crew has strong links to the grassroots rugby league scene.

“We’ve got eight guys that work for us, a few of them have played league here and few of their kids play league, so it’s good to get involved in the system,” Ōtautahi Interior Liners director Mark Hedges says.

“It just sounded like a really cool idea to get behind.

“When we started the business, we wanted to have some funds available to help out with things like this. We want to help people get into their sports.

“We sponsor our boys’ rugby teams, we sponsor a guy doing motorsport and bits and pieces like that. It feels good to help out – especially getting kids into sport socially, it’s a really good thing.”

OIL’s generosity alleviates a cost for families and promotes player safety for some of our code’s youngest participants.

It is compulsory for all players playing in NZRL-sanctioned competitions to wear a protective mouthguard.

“We are very grateful to Mark Hedges and Ōtautahi Interior Liners for providing their support to our junior programme,” Canterbury Rugby League CEO Malcolm Humm says.

“A key strategic priority of Canterbury Rugby League’s is that our participants have safe and enjoyable experiences. The offering of free mouthguards to all six-year-old junior grade players aligns with this goal and, in the future, we would like to be able to offer this to more junior grades.”

Ōtautahi Interior Liners employees previously played for Shirley Hawks and Addington Magpies in CRL’s senior competitions, while four kids from the OIL family participate in the CRL Whitehead Plumbing & Gas juniors.

Meanwhile, Hedges reveals that rugby league is the undisputed number one sport in his household.

“My two boys play rugby for Prebbleton, which is a great club but they love league – they watch league, they don’t watch rugby – they know all the stats, they love the Warriors and the Bulldogs. I’m a tragic Warriors fan – but luckily this is our year!” he says.

“When my boys weren’t playing rugby I’d nip down the road and watch the lads from work’s juniors play (at Canterbury Park). It’s really well-organised and there’s so many kids into it, too,” Hedges enthuses.

“Ōtautahi Interior Liners didn’t jump onboard with the mindset of getting our name out there or drumming up work, it’s more about getting involved with Canterbury Rugby League and getting kids into sport.

“In saying that, if you’re looking for an interior liner, hit us up!

“I’m looking forward to seeing our signage down at Ngā Puna Wai, that’s an added bonus – we’ll be stoked to see that around.”
