TRILLO METALS CANTERBURY BULLS MEN’S PUT AORAKI EELS TO THE SWORD
The Trillo Metals Canterbury Bulls Men’s team remains undefeated in the South Island Championships after carving out a comprehensive 54-6 win over Aoraki Eels at Ngā Puna Wai in Round 2.
Back up from their season-opening comeback victory over West Coast in Greymouth, the Trillo Metals Bulls got off to a flying start this time around and led 28-0 at halftime.
The home side went on with the job after the break, completing an 11-tries-to-one rout.
Winger Deijdre Siaki finished with two tries, while Eastern Eagles clubmate Harold Kolose came off the bench to grab a double.
Lock Uale Peneli capped a best-on-ground performance with a fourt-pointer and front-row tyro George Faaiva was also among Canterbury’s best.
The result sets up a winner-take-all showdown between the Trillo Metals Canterbury Bulls Men’s and Southland Rams – who have also chalked up wins over the Eels and Chargers – at Oamaru’s Centennial Park next Saturday.
The victor in Round 3 will take out the South Island Championship and earn the right to take on the North Island Championship winner in the October 6 promotion match for a place in the 2025 NZRL National Premiership.
Trillo Metals Canterbury Bulls Men’s 54 (Deijdre Siaki 2, Harold Kolose 2, Elisara Vaifale, Seamus Stack, Taniela Leka, Danny Samuelu-Latu, Uaele Peneli, Thomas Irving, Cameron-Brody Greig tries; Greig 3, Peneli 2 goals) defeated Aoraki Eels 6 at Ngā Puna Wai, Saturday, September 14.
