KEAS CRUSH HAWKS IN CANTERBURY CUP GF

Linwood Keas powered to an emphatic Canterbury Cup grand final win at Ngā Puna Wai, obliterating Shirley Hawks 58-0 in a blowout result few saw coming after the teams’ major semi went to golden point.

The Keas raced out to 26-0 by halftime then piled on seven tries in the second stanza to consign the Hawks to their second straight premier reserves grand final defeat.

Back-rower Joseph Mika crossed for two tries in the opening 40 minutes and completed his hat-trick after the break, while five-eighth Shane Bowden and interchange forward Alex Ioane finished with doubles after scoring a try in each half.

An off day with the boot from Keas halfback Leon Jarden – who still finished with a 14-point haul from a try and five goals – saved the Hawks from an even more devastating scoreline.
