NRL

Kodi Nikorima’s mid-season move to the Warriors is paying huge early dividends for both parties, with the ex-Bronco one of the standouts in an emphatic 30-10 win over Penrith on Friday night.

The livewire half made two line-breaks – one resulting in a sizzling solo try – among eight runs for 82 metres to emerge as a potential season-saving X-factor for the Warriors. Nikorima also picked up two Dally M points for his efforts.

Fellow Burnham Chevaliers junior Jazz Tevaga had another super-strong game off the bench for the Warriors, racking up 112 metres, a line-break and 28 tackles (including a sensational first-half try-saver).

Jamayne Isaako returned on the wing for Brisbane after being dropped for Magic Round, booting three critical goals from as many attempts in a gritty 15-10 win over the Broncos.

The Aranui product also racked up 97 running metres for the Broncos.

CANTERBURY CUP NSW

Parramatta-contracted Matt McIlwrick played at hooker for Wentworthville Magpies in a 34-20 loss to North Sydney Bears, the team he played for much of last season while attached to Souths.

Cruz Topai-Aveai was promoted to starting prop for Newtown Jets and made a big impression in a 44-28 win over Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles, reeling off 133 metres on 10 carries and making 18 tackles.

INTRUST SUPER CUP QLD

Young back-row prospect Jordan Riki had a fine game off the bench in Norths Devils’ 42-18 win over Mackay Cutters. Riki made nine runs for 101 metres and 24 tackles in 39 minutes of game-time.

Former Northern Bulldogs hooker Sheldon Pitama made his first ISC appearance of the season for Redcliffe Dolphins – and played a starring role off the bench in a 52-10 thrashing of Central Queensland Capras. Pitama scored a try in each half of the eight-tries-to-two victory.

HASTINGS DEERING COLTS (QLD U20S)

Jalen Tangiiti-Turner featured on the wing in Wynnum-Manly Seagulls’ 34-10 win over Western Mustangs. The Seagulls joined Burleigh Bears in equal-first position on the Hastings Deering Colts ladder.

The versatile Daejarn Asi played at five-eighth and Griffin Neame came off the bench for Townsville Blackhawks, but they went down 22-18 to Sunshine Coast Falcons on Sunday.
