RED AND BLACK REPORT 2019: EDITION NO.1
Each week the Red and Black Report will keep you up to date with how our Canterbury Rugby League products are performing in Australia’s elite and lower-grade competitions.
Aranui product and 2018 Dally M Rookie of the Year Jamayne Isaako kicked two goals and made 83 metres from 12 runs in the Brisbane Broncos’ season-opening loss to the Melbourne Storm on Thursday.
Isaako topped the NRL’s pointscoring charts last season, while also making his New Zealand Test debut.
Broncos halfack and Burnham Chevaliers junior Kodi Nikorima was criticised for his performance against the Storm, but ran for an impressive 111 metres.
Another Burnham junior, Jazz Tevaga, carried a heavy heart into the Warriors’ clash with the Canterbury Bulldogs on Saturday in the wake of the horrific tragedy in Christchurch.
But the 2018 Dally M Interchange Player of the Year was inspiring off the bench in the Warriors’ 40-6 romp, making 11 runs and a team-high 41 tackles – including a bell-ringer on Kieran Foran in the second half.
