RED AND BLACK REPORT 2018: EDITION NO.21
Each week the Red and Black Report will keep you up to date with how our Canterbury Rugby League products are performing in Australia’s elite and lower-grade competitions.
NRL
Jamayne Isaako scored a try and kicked three goals while Brisbane teammate Kodi Nikorima produced two try-assists, but it was an unhappy night for the Broncos in a shock 36-22 loss to Canterbury Bulldogs.
Isaako’s 10-point haul puts him third in the NRL’s pointscoring race with 171, behind only Gareth Widdop (191) and Latrell Mitchell (186).
One Csntabrian revelled in the Thursday night boilover, however – Fa’amanu Brown came off the bench for the Bulldogs. The Hornby product has played only eight matches for the club in 2018 but has featured in four of its six wins.
Jazz Tevaga made up for a subpar performance on the Gold Coast in Round 20 with an absolute blinder off the bench in the Warriors’ 18-12 upset of St George Illawarra on Saturday.
The utility-forward topped the tackle count with 50, led the Warriors’ forwards with 13 carries, and laid on a try for Issac Luke with a brilliant offload.

Big Ken, Blairy and Jazz were outstanding, but a captain's knock stole the show in the Vodafone Warriors' gutsy 18-12 triumph over St George-Illawarra Dragons.#NRLDragonsWarriors #ThisWarriorsLife #WarriorNation #letsgonewarriorshttps://t.co/uZKhw9nPsq

After playing 15 games across the 2016-17 seasons, Tevaga has doubled his NRL appearances tally with 15 first-grade outings in 2018.
INTRUST SUPER PREMIERSHIP NSW
Matt McIlwrick came off the bench in North Sydney Bears’ 36-22 victory over Wyong Roos.
Lewis Brown’s utility value came to the fore for Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles, moved to hooker in a late change ahead of a 26-24 defeat of Newtown Jets.
Pita Godinet started at halfback in Western Suburbs Magpies’ 38-10 loss at the hands of Penrith.
INTRUST SUPER CUP QLD
Nathan Saumalu featured at centre as last-placed Mackay Cutters scored a surprise 16-all draw with second-placed Redcliffe Dolphins.
JERSEY FLEGG (NSW U20s)
Sua Ailoilo came off the bench in the Bulldogs’ 32-30 eclipse of the Dragons. The Bulldogs sit seventh in the Jersey Flegg competition.
Cruz Topai-Aveai scored a try in the first half as second-placed Cronulla mauled Manly 48-14.
