RED AND BLACK REPORT 2018: EDITION NO.20

Each week the Red and Black Report will keep you up to date with how our Canterbury Rugby League products are performing in Australia’s elite and lower-grade competitions.

NRL

Jamayne Isaako passed over the goalkicking duties to Jordan Kahu in Brisbane’s Thursday night clash with Cronulla due to a leg injury, but the new Broncos fullback had a strong game in the gripping 12-10 victory with 15 runs for 138 metres.

Kodi Nikorima also played a steady hand at halfback for the triumphant Broncos.

Fa’amanu Brown was solid off the bench as Canterbury upset Wests Tigers 16-4, racking up 12 tackles and three dummy-half runs for 31 metres.

Jazz Tevaga had a forgettable afternoon on the Gold Coast, despite topping the Warriors’ tackle count with 42.

The utility, who started at hooker for the injured Issac Luke before reverting to his regular middle forward role, threw a crucial intercept pass for Ashley Taylor to score in the second half and spilled the ball on the Titans’ line.

INTRUST SUPER PREMIERSHIP NSW

Western Suburbs halfback Pita Godinet scored two tries and kicked three goals in a 32-26 win over a Blacktown Workers side featuring Lewis Brown at hooker.

INTRUST SUPER CUP QLD

Mackay were pipped 24-22 by Tweed Heads, but centre Nathan Saumalu scored a try for the beaten Cutters, who sit last on the ISC ladder.

JERSEY FLEGG (NSW U20s)

Sua Ailoilo returned the Bulldogs’ Under-20s side, coming off the bench in a 12-6 win over the Warriors at Belmore Sports Ground.

Cruz Topai-Aveai lined up at prop as Cronulla edged Penrith 25-24 at Henson Park, a result that saw the Sharks leapfrog the Panthers into second on the Jersey Flegg ladder.

HASTINGS DEERING COLTS (QLD U20s)

Instead of playing for Norths Devils’ Under-20s, Jordan Riki turned out for West Brisbane Panthers in their BRL A-Grade fixture against Wynnum Seagulls.
