RED AND BLACK REPORT 2018: EDITION NO.18

Each week the Red and Black Report will keep you up to date with how our Canterbury Rugby League products are performing in Australia’s elite and lower-grade competitions.

NRL

Brisbane Broncos duo Jamayne Isaako and Kodi Nikorima were expected to be the Canterbury juniors smiling at fulltime on Sunday at Suncorp Stadium, but instead it was Jazz Tevaga grinning from ear to ear after the Warriors’ 26-6 boilover.

Tevaga was brilliant off the bench for the dominant Warriors, running for 87 metres on 10 carries, making three tackle-busts and chalking up 39 tackles.

Isaako was well-contained but added a goal to his 2018 tally, while Nikorima was arguably the Broncos’ most dangerous ball-runner in a disappointing team effort.

Fa’amanu Brown made a line-break, 46 metres and eight tackles after coming on at dummy-half during Canterbury Bulldogs’ 24-6 loss to South Sydney.

It was the Hornby junior’s fifth appearance in the top grade this season.

INTRUST SUPER PREMIERSHIP NSW

Matt McIlwrick, who transferred from Wests Tigers to Souths before the June 30 deadline, came off the bench for Rabbitohs feeder club North Sydney in their 28-all draw with Newtown, who McIlwrick played for during his time at Cronulla.

Pita Godinet, down the pecking order at the Tigers after Robbie Farah’s arrival, featured at halfback in Western Suburubs’ 28-8 ISP loss to Mounties.

Lewis Brown was back in action for Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles, starting in the second-row as they went down 26-18 to Wyong Roos.

INTRUST SUPER CUP QLD

Sheldon Pitama made an impact off the bench as table-topping Redcliffe Dolpins put away Burleigh Bears 40-28.

Nathan Saumalu was on the wing for Mackay Cutters in a heavy 44-10 home loss to Easts Tigers.

JERSEY FLEGG (NSW U20s)

Front-rower Cruz Topai-Aveai scored the final try of Cronulla’s 48-12 demolition over North Sydney at Saturday.

HASTINGS DEERING COLTS (QLD U20s)

After making his ISC debut last week, boom back-rower Jordan Riki returned to the Under-20s and scored a try in Norths Devils’ 36-28 win over CQ Capras.
