RED AND BLACK REPORT 2018: EDITION NO.10

Each week the Red and Black Report will keep you up to date with how our Canterbury Rugby League products are performing in Australia’s elite and lower-grade competitions.

NRL

Burnham Chevaliers junior Jazz Tevaga returned from a one-week injury layoff to feature off the bench in the Warriors’ disappointing 32-0 loss to the Roosters – his 22nd NRL appearance

The versatile Tevaga rotated with starting hooker Karl Lawton and made 25 tackles.

Aranui product Jamayne Isaako scored a try and kicked four goals in Brisbane’s surprise 38-24 loss to Manly. The rookie winger is sixth in the NRL’s pointscoring race with 81 (four tries, 32 goals, one field goal).

Burnham junior Kodi Nikorima reclaimed the Broncos’ No.7 jumper and laid on a magical Anthony Milford try to keep his name in the frame for the Kiwis’ Test against England next month.

INTRUST SUPER PREMIERSHIP NSW

After several weeks starring in local Fox Memorial Shield action in Auckland, Tevin Arona started at halfback in the Warriors’ 11-0 reserve grade loss to Western Suburbs.

With Shaun Johnson and Mason Lino battling injuries, the former Hornby and Rockcote Canterbury Bulls star could incredibly come into contention for an NRL debut in coming weeks.

Dropping out of Wests Tigers’ first-grade line-up, Pita Godinet was Arona’s opposing halfback while Halswell junior Matt McIlwrick was at hooker for the Magpies.

Hornby old boy Fa’amanu Brown moved from hooker to halfback for Canterbury’s ISP side on the weekend, kicking four goals in a 21-20 loss to St George Illawarra.

The utility – unlucky not to play more first grade for the Bulldogs this season – is strongly rumoured to be in the Sea Eagles’ sights.

INTRUST SUPER CUP QLD

Ex-Northern Bulldogs junior Sheldon Pitama featured at hooker as Redcliffe Dolphins went down in a 26-24 thriller to Northern Pride on Saturday.

JERSEY FLEGG (NSW U-20s)

The Jersey Flegg competition is on a two-week hiatus.

HASTINGS DEERING COLTS (QLD U-20s)

Jalen Tangiiti-Turner’s Wynnum Manly Seagulls side held off Victoria Thunderbolts 37-34 at Kougari Oval.
