NRL

Burnham Chevaliers junior Jazz Tevaga has well and truly entrenched himself on the in-form Warriors’ bench, starring again in their upset of the previously unbeaten Dragons with 33 tackles and seven runs.

Aranui Eagles product Jamayne Isaako didn’t get the result this week, but he was still a standout for the Brisbane Broncos in a gallant 34-20 loss to the Melbourne Storm. Isaako got a solid workout up against Storm speedster Josh Addo-Carr but produced a few highlight-reel moments of his own, including a try-assist for James Roberts, a fine finish to score in the second half and two goals.

Returning from a corked thigh, Kodi Nikorima came off the bench at hooker for the injured Andrew McCullough and shapes as a front-runner for the No.9 jumper this week. Nikorima threw a superb cut-out ball for Isaako’s try.

Pita Godinet returned to Wests Tigers’ line-up for injured star Josh Reynolds, coming off the bench and making 21 tackles and four runs during stints at hooker and five-eighth in a last-gasp loss to Newcastle at Tamworth.

 

INTRUST SUPER PREMIERSHIP NSW

Hornby junior Fa’amanu Brown again found his way onto the scoresheet for Canterbury Bulldogs’ ISP team, crossing early the second half in a 22-20 loss to his former club, Newtown Jets.

Riccarton Knights’ favourite son Lewis Brown featured at lock on Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles’ 32-16 victory over Wyong Roos.

Halswell product Matt McIlwrick handled the No.9 duties opposite fellow Kiwi hooker Danny Levi as Western Suburbs Magpies edged out Newcastle Knights 24-20 on Saturday.

 

INTRUST SUPER CUP QLD

Sheldon Pitama was at hooker for Redcliffe Dolphins in a comprehensive 38-10 win over Mackay Cutters. Nathan Saumalu scored one of the Cutters’ two tries.

Phil Nati returned to Central Queensland Capras’ squad on the weekend, coming off the bench in a 15-8 win over Northern Pride.

 

JERSEY FLEGG (NSW U-20s)

There were three Canterbury juniors on display as the Bulldogs’ Jersey Flegg side clashed with Cronulla Sharks. Daniel Sakisi (Bulldogs) and Cruz Topai-Aveai (Sharks) opposed each other in the front-row, while Sua Ailoilo came off the bench for the blue-and-whites.

Cruz earned the bragging rights, though, as the Sharks prevailed 18-16.

 

HASTINGS DEERING COLTS (QLD U-20s)

Jalen Tangiiti-Turner’s Wynnym-Manly Seagulls’ Under-20s had the bye in Round 7, but Jordan Riki featured at lock as Norths Devils Under-18s sealed top spot in the Mal Meninga Cup competition. The Devils face Mackay Cutters in Saturday’s semi-final for a spot in the prestigious competition’s decider.

Riki is in Brisbane as part of the Broncos’ development program and is expected to push for a Hastings Deering Colts call-up in 2018.
