Hornby High School Take Out Junior XIII Final

Hornby High School claimed the inaugural Canterbury Rugby League Junior XIII Year 9 and 10 title with a convincing 40-8 victory over a spirited Haeata Community Campus side at Canterbury Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Arlan Perez opened the scoring, before Jayton Lawrie and Tevita Tatu crossed as Hornby High powered out to a 22-0 halftime lead.

The Izaya Frost-led Haeata side came out the stronger of the two teams in the second stanza, posting two tries to trim the deficit to 14 points.

Hornby High, coached by Rockcote Canterbury Bulls and Hornby Panthers veteran Corey Lawrie, reacted to the wake-up call, however, and ran in the last four tries of the match to seal an emphatic win.
