Here is an outline of all courses delivered by the Coaching & Development team including course dates, resources and material that will help guide you in becoming a qualified trainer.
Interested in becoming a trainer? Do you enjoy educating players on hydration, nutrition and physical conditioning?
Please note: Before attending any courses, you MUST complete the NZRL Leaguesmart online questionnaire.
This questionnaire will take approximately 30-40 minutes which covers a variety of basic rugby league questions with video footage to support throughout the duration. There is no time limit to the questionnaire as long as it has been completed before attending the course. A failure to do so will be deemed “course tbc”.
Sports Medic First Aid Officer Course (FAO)
This course is for individuals who are wanting to become certified as a Sports Medic First Aid Officer (FAO) when working with teams.
This course introduces individuals to the fundamental principles of being a FAO and how to manage on-field injuries.
The course has three compulsory components:
– Leaguesmart online questionnaire which must be completed before attending the course
– Overview of sports medic requirements – PowerPoint presentation
– Sports medic practical – Indoors i.e. chest compressions, mouth2mouth, etc.
Nationals Trainers Course (NT)
This course is for individuals who want to become a certified as a National Trainer. This accreditation will allow individuals to manage all sports conditioning, sports injuries and sports programming.
This course covers the compulsory components:
– Leaguesmart online questionnaire which must be completed before attending the course
– Sport medic presentation
– Anatomy & physiology presentation
– Conditioning & training presentation
– Conditioning & training practical
This course covers 5 modules which includes the FAO course.
These 5 compulsory components are:

- First aid officer course
- Strapping
- Anatomy & physiology
- Conditioning & training
